Chris sighed, he had been on the base a few weeks and life wasn't the greatest at the moment. Of course, he had gotten over the initial pain of loosing his Uncle, but he was feeling a little lonely. He had thought that, now that he was living on the base, he and his Father would have more time together. This hadn't been the case.
Optimus was usually in his office doing work, only being free late at night. Chris got a few hours at the most with his Father and that was if he wasn't ready to hit the hay. In fact, he was pretty sure his Dad had carried him on his shoulder once the whole time he was there. Something he used to do all the time as a kid.
It wasn't that he was complaining, he just missed his Dad. That was putting it simply anyway. He sighed, leaning against the outside of the base, and looking out towards the open terrain of the surrounding New Jeresy Desert. "Man it's so boring around here." He murmured.

Optimus lifted himself from his office chair, finishing everything he had to do. Autobots were suffering because of his son. Well, that and the fact they were facing the Decepticons. Well there was never anything new there. He hated seeing them suffering, but what choice did they have? Really none. It was either fight or die. And the destruction of this planet, and that wasn't a reasonable thought. He could never allow this planet to be destroyed. No, never that. He would die first.
But now wasn't the time for such thoughts. He made his way over to the yard where he knew Chris was. Now was just some bonding time. He looked at the Autobots he passed, and nodded slightly. The NEST officials who were still up stopped and looked at him before heading back on their way. He continued on his path, and soon made it to the courtyard.
"Well, there's really nothing we can do about your boredom." He chuckled slighly and sat down beside Chris, staring at the stars.

Chris jumped slightly at his Father's rather unexpected arrival. He sighed, he was done with work earlier then usual, much to his surprise. He looked at his Father calmly, though he had to look up to really see him. "Hey Dad." He smiled a bit.
He sighed, looking outward as well, he supposed Optimus might have noticed how he felt and decided to spend some time with him. After all, it was only eight at night and that was early for him to get off work. "I know, I guess I was just saying, didn't know you were listening or I'd have kept it to myself." He replied honestly.
He looked over at Optimus, it was odd, but he seemed peaceful. Something his Father could rarely be described as. Sometimes, he had to wonder if Optimus put on that mask around him so he didn't get worried. "You're done with work early." He added.

Optimus watched as he noticed Chris didn't realise he was there, and Optimus startled him. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." He looked at Chris as he started to speak. "It doesn't bother me that you state what you are feeling." Smiling, Optimus stared at Chris.
He had been done his job early. But then again, it wasn't an ordinary job. He was a leader of a group most humans didn't even know existed. Bottom line was they were aliens on a planet, fighting for their survival. Well, they weren't a secret group now, not with the broadcast Fallen had sent out two years ago.
Chris spoke, and Optimus nodded. "Yeah, well today was easier. Some days are tougher than others. But I have a feeling in the near future, everyone's gonna be busy. Decepticons don't stay immobolized forever."

"Well I'm not complaining." Chris looked over at Optimus slightly, he didn't want to vocalize that he wished Optimus would do this more often. Even he wasn't that selfish, he knew Optimusspent what time he could with him considering the current situation "It's nice spending time with you."
He shook his head slightly, and shifted positions, standing up a bit, he was careful with what he did next. He had done it a few times as a kid with help, but doing it without help was another story entirely. He slowly climbed onto his Father's arm and up a bit until he was on his shoulder, sitting there. "Sorry, it's just... Easier this way." He commented, shifting a bit to get comfortable.
"I can only imagine, it's got to be hard juggling work and being... Well..." Chris thought for a minute, trying to figure out a good way to put what he wanted to say into words "You know, being a single parent to me."

Optimus nodded. "Time is a hard thing to find. You can be searching for it and not even realize it until your journeys lead you to it. You don't realize how valuable it is until you loose it." Optimus knew that. But humans didn't seem to know it. The sad thing with humans were that they didn't realize how valuable something was until it was gone.
Optimus was watching the sky, his gaze looking towards an invisible planet to the humans. Most of them didn't even know it existed. Cybertron. It was the home of the Autobots. And the Decepticons, and the race of the techno organics.
As Chris was suddenly on his shoulder, Optimus looked at him quickly, and lifted his empty hand, ready to catch Chris if he should fail. But luckily, Chris hadn't and in a few mere seconds(it felt like minutes for Optimus), Chris was seated on his shoulder. "It's fine. Just warn me next time." His voice was gentle, but held a commanding place to it as it always did when directing an issue with his fellow Autobots. A tone Chris had to know well by now.
His gaze turned to his shoulder where Chris was now seated, and he listened as Chris spoke, once again. "Don't be foolish. You're not a burden. You're a gift." A smile crossed his face when he finished his speech. It was true. Optimus wouldn't know how he would survive if something ever happened to Chris.

"Yeah, sorry, I forgot the rule with you. Always ask to be lifted up." That had been a rule when he was growing up as a little kid too, even as low as he was, Optimus got fidgity when he climbed up. It was easy to fall, and Optimus was on exceptionally tall mech. "I'll do that next time."
Chris looked at Optimus when he called him a 'Gift'. Of course Optimus had said that a lot when he was younger, but it was still nice to hear that from the Autobot Leader. Especially because sometimes he did feel like a burden. Not just to his Father but to the other Autobots as well. "I know, I didn't mean it the way it came out." Chris smiled gently, making it obvious though he sometimes felt that way, he didn't mean it in that way.
"Dad, I wanted to talk to you by the way... About me going back to public school for Senior Year." Chris bit his lip lightly "I know you said I needed an escort to places and all. But do you think..." He thought of way to put this "If I were ok with you placing as many Autobots as you wanted to around the school, you may allow it?"
Chris was willing to compromise, would he have preffered there not to be a lot of bodyguards? Yes. But in truth, he wanted to be with his friends at school a bit more. To participate in theater, and to play basketball. He figured Optimus, if they could compromise, would at least think on it.
"If you still want me to further my education on the base I'll do it. I understand where you're coming from." He commented with a nod. It was the truth, he understood Optimus's reasoning but he figured one try at compromise couldn't hurt anything.

Optimus nodded. "Yeah, Ratchet would chew the both of us out if you fell one time." Ratchet was a good medic, but his attitude could be adjusted. But not like Optimus would tell him that. The big yellow bot was important to their succession. Without him, many lives would have been lost.
As Chris spoke again, Optimus didn't say anything, just nodded. The wasn't anything really to say, and nodding showed he understood. Words couldn't always describe everything, and action was better than words at points.
Really, the Prime knew what Chris where Chris was coming from. He wanted to go back to school for his senior year, and of course, Optimus understood that. Why shouldn't he? He was young once. Well, that really wasn't the same thing, him being a robot and all. But he knew where his son was coming from. "As long as one of the Autobots give you a ride back, and Sideswipe will be there too."

Chris listened, however, when Optimus finally gave him permission to go back to school next year... Well, needless to say he had the brightest smile he had had in a long time. His Dad was actually going to allow him to go back to Tranquility HIgh, he had never thought he'd hear those words. "Thanks Dad, that means so much to me." He replied, hugging a crook of Optimus's shoulder.
Of course there were some obstacles they'd have to overcome. Parent-teacher meetings being highest up on that list. At the very least the staff at the school would have to know who his Dad was. If not things could end badly. "We'll have to figure out what to do when you have to show up at my school... But we'll work that out later." He told him, knowing he'd be able to agree with that.
He sighed, leaning back against Optimus's shoulder, he looked up at the stars. His brain was slightly scattered, but it was very clear he was throughly enjoying himself. "You know, when I was little, I used to come out on the roof of my house... And search through the stars for where you were." He commented, smiling a bit.

Optimus nodded. "But if any Decepticons show up, I want to know about it right away. No matter if it's just one." Another condition. He didn't want Chris hiding anything from him, and if any Decepticon attacked, Optimus would find out.
As Chris spoke once again, Optimus thought about it. He had forgotten about that. The parent teacher confrences weren't the best. And one time, he had actually threatened a teacher(I think that was before this topic). Not his brightest idea, and after that, he wasn't in the same class. Some people just totally flipped about one of their students having a giant fighting robot for a father.
"I do have a holoform, don't forget about that Chris." Optimus just said it as a reminder.
He smiled as his son spoke again. He used to do the similar thing, although different. Optimus would look at the stars, and memories of Chris would pop into his head. Well then, I guess you'd say Sentinel, because that's what his name was. Not Chris, but Sentinel. He was named after one of the thirteen original transformers. One of which he had killed. The Fallen had been the one who Optimus had killed.

"I know, I'd call you right away. Remember that's what I have this for." Chris tapped his watch, which Optimus had given him at a young age with a smile, it was for that exact reason. If they were seperated and Chris was in any kind of danger, he could either send out a quick distress signal or call for help through it.
As Optimus brought up his holoform, he nodded, he had almost totally forgotten about that. He knew his Father could handle that, though he hoped he would never need to go to his school in robot form. "You're right, but just in case, we should tell the staff the truth. It'll give us an excuse to place Autobots around there without causing alarm." He explained.
Chris had never had to consider this before, but now that he was living with the Autobots, he really had to. If they didn't figure out how this would work things could get chaotic. "I never realized how hard this would be until things actually started happening." He joked "But at least the world knows about you now... It would have been so much harder if you were still in hiding."
Chris yawned lightly, getting a bit more comfortable on the off-chance he fell asleep. He was sure Optimus wouldn't mind it if he did fall asleep on his rather broad shoulder. "It's funny, I think this is the most peaceful night I've spent here since I arrived." He commented.
