"Yeah, not to mention I was caught in a standoff with Megatron and Nemesis. Though that time I was lucky to get out of it alive." Chris thought about that with a shudder, Monica had been caught in that too, and both of them had been nearly killed during the ensuing battle. "Yeah, I remember Blackout from Cybertron... And Gutsy from the freeway batle. They're really... Crazy and powerful at the same time."

"Here's hoping they decide to put a different Autobot on base guard and put me out in the thick of things." he said. "Because honestly, I haven't done much of anything out here as a guard, and I've been getting mighty bored." he added. "And my hammer isn't going to put notches on it itself, now is it?" He asked rhetorically.

"Yeah I know what you mean, you seemed like the kind of guy who likes a good fight. You remind me of Ironhide in that respect." Chris observed with a grin, and a small yawn, however, he kept driving not as crazy as before for fear he'd nod off, he was tired that day for one reason or another. "What's it like, you know... Actually fighting in the front lines... I've always been curious."

It took him a moment to formulate an answer. His question wasn't one he got very often. "Well...actually, you're the first person to ask that." said Hammerfist. "It's usually veiled in uncertainty. Mostly because you get so wrapped up in yourself and your immediate surroundings that you might not be aware of the bigger picture, which usually consists of if you're on the winning side or not." He trailed off, trying to think of more details about being a frontliner.
"All I can really say is this. On the frontline, it's not about being fearless. It's about being afraid and still pushing forward regardless." he said.

Chris took all this in, listening to every word. He could have never imagined it being like that... But at the same time he now had a newfound understanding of what his Dad and many other great leaders tended to say. War was, simply put... Hell. "Wow, I finally understand why Dad always looks so... Distraught after a battle." He thought out loud.
He thought for a minute and decided it was best to get back to the base now. It was 10: 30 and Optimus, like his late Uncle Richard, had a curfew for him set at 11:00. "We should probably head back now." He said, driving in that general direction "I'd rather not get in trouble for staying out past curfew the day before my birthday."

Hammerfist let out a chuckle. "Alright then." he added at the end of it. "If you do get back late, I'll tell Prime it was my idea. No need for you to get in any trouble on the night before you turn 18." he said. "Besides, with the things you've been through lately, you deserve a little bit of 'go wild' time anyways. We all need it sometime or another. Why fight the urge?"

"Thanks Hammerfist, I owe you one." Chris commented in regards to him covering for him in that way "Yeah, I really did need to to be honest." He then added "I haven't had a lot of down time... Especially after... Welll the incident." He got off the subject, still paying attention to where he was going. It was dark out and it wasn't so easy to navigate seeing as he hadn't been living in New Jeresy very long.

"No problem." he replied. He paid attention to the ground out in front of him, looking for one of the paths he might have cut in the ground before. He spotted one that he used when he needed to come back from romping about in the dirt and mud fast. "If you take the trail on the left, the one with the deep tire grooves in it, it'll get you back to the base in about 15 minutes." he said.

"Thanks." Chris smiled a bit, and began driving, he was still tired and ready to nod off, so he decided to warn him. "Hey, Hammer, if I start falling asleep, feel free to take over. I don't wanna crash you or anything." He commented "Which I'm sure you're aware, can sometimes happen when someone is driving while tired."

"Yeah, this is true." he said with a laugh. "But even if you did crash me, all I'd need is a trip to the car wash and detail shop to take out the dings." he added, allowing himself to boast about his durability a bit. After all, he didn't choose an SUV as an alt form just because it looked nice.

"True." Chris went silent after that, pulling to a stop in the Autobot hangar. He calmly climbed out of the driver's seat. "Well, I think I'm headed to bed, I'm tired." He smiled a bit as he let out a yawn, patting Hammerfist's hood "Thanks for the drive."

Hammerfist gave a flash of his parking lights again. "Sleep well." he said as he closed the door behind Chris. "And it's no problem about the drive, either." he added. It was always good to go for a spin out in the wilderness. It was better for Hammerfist that he actually got to enjoy it with someone else, whether it be a Human, Autobot, or Chris, who was caught between those two worlds.

"Thanks, you too Hammer." Chris nodded, before heading to his and David's bedroom. Luckily for him, it wasn't too far from the hangar. And as such he only walked a few feet, into his bedroom, and passed out. Likely not to awaken again for several more hours.
