Chris was in the Nursery late that night, carrying his newborn son in his arms gently. Rocking him gently with a soft hum, Chris sighed, it had been a long day. They had just brought his son, Jacob Orion Prime home from the Med Bay that day. Chris had been a natural Father, dedicating most of the day to being with his son.
He sighed, the baby boy looking up at him with those gentle, soft baby blue 'Prime' eyes. Every Prime boy had them for one reason or another. He smiled, and as he rocked his son, began to sing. It was the soft lullaby Optimus had sung him when he was in infancy and as a toddler. Chris was surprised he remembered it himself.
As he watched his son's eyes slowly close as the lullaby ended he smiled warms. Kissing 'Jake' on the forehead, he gently layed him under the blanket in his crib. Leaning and watching he smiled gently. "Sweet dreams Jake." He murmured softly "I love you." But he didn't move, he just stood there, watching his son sleep.

Optimus had avoided the med bay as Jake was born, figuring Monica and Chris would want some privacy. It was a magical moment, and Optimus knew that. But of course, Chris wasn't able to keep his father away from his grandson. That was something Optimus could not do.
He entered the room, and heard Chris singing a lulliby. But this lulliby was one he knew, and it almost made him stop in his tracks. But he kept on walking, a smile across his holoform's face. It was the lulliby he had often sung to Chris when he was a toddler.
Putting his hand on Chris's shoulder, he looked into the crib where Jacob was now sleeping. "It's magical, isn't it? Being a father."

Chris hadn't heard Optimus come in, and therefore had almost summoned a blade. It was an impulse, but he noticed it was Optimus as soon as his Father spoke. He figured he'd have to get used to it, being protective of his newborn son would now be a daily impulse. "Hey Dad." He spoke softly as to not wake Jacob.
He smiled a bit as Optimus asked him that question. "Yeah, I mean until I held Jake for the first time... I never realized anything could be so small." He then added "That I could ever love anything so much."
He then added with a chuckle, looking at his Father. "He's got the Prime eyes." He shook his head slightly "I just hope I can be half the Father to him that you were to me."

Optimus forgot about Chris being able to go freely into his robot form now, and forgot how protective a father was for his child, especially a newborn. "I should have told you it was me. Sorry about that Chris."
He sighed. "It's not the easiest thing in the world. Tiring, but worth it in the end." Optimus stroked a hand over Jacob's face. There was a reason he used his holoform, and Optimus knew that.
"Yes he does. Beautiful eyes. Reminds me of yours." Pulling his hand away, he placed it on the side of the crib. "Don't worry, you'll be an excellent father, I'm sure of that." His gaze then turned to Chris. "You know, I haven't heard his name."

"Jacob Orion Prime... After the two bravest men Monica and I have known... Our Fathers." Chris smiled gently, looking at his Father smiling slightly. He had a gut feeling just by looking at Optimus at the moment that he was going to spoil Jake like there was no tomorrow. Just like any loving Grandparent would really. "So you now know the name of the grandson you're going to be spoiling." He teased his Father.
Chris kissed his son's head gently before moving from leaning and looking at Optimus. "I bet you remember when you were the one leaning over my crib." He smiled a bit. "Now I'm 24 and a Father."
"Thanks, it feels really good to know you feel that way." He replied regarding Optimus believing he'd make a good father.

Optimus restated the name slowly, almost in a whisper. "Jacob Orion Prime." He smiled, and looked at his grandson. His mind set adrift, he wondered how Jacob would react to having a giant robot as a grandfather, and his own father being of a different species. But if Monica came to accept it, then Jacob could to. "It's in our "how to be a grandfather" book. You'll know soon enough." He smiled at his comment, and looked at Chris.
"Yes, it seemed only a few days ago. Every parent thinks their kids grow up too fast. You will know the feeling with Jacob." Optimus sighed, his holoform allowing the breath to come slowly out of the nose. At his last comment, Optimus chuckled lightly.
"Trust me Chris, if I knew you weren't ready, you would know it. And you are more than ready, as is Monica."

Chris laughed a little at Optimus's comment on why Grandfather's spoiled their grandkids. That was probably true, though he was sure there was no manual. It just came with the territory so-to-speak. "Well if it's in the manual, you have my permission to spoil him as much as you'd like." He joked slightly.
He wrapped an arm around his Father in a hug as if to let him know he'd always be his son. If that's what he was afraid of Chris had always been, and would always be a Daddy's boy. "Hey, you know I'll always need you Dad, I grew up... It's not like I stopped being your son." He smiled and let go after a moment.
He thought for a moment before commenting to Optimus. "You want to hold him? When he's asleep he usually is asleep through anything. Or he was that way in the Med Bay at least." He commented.

Optimus smiled. "Well it's good to have your permission, but I would have done it anyways." He chuckled, and looked at Chris. Of course ther wasn't a manual, there never really was one for anything. Not for being a leader, not for how to destroy the Decepticons without them harming anyone else, nothing.
"I know, and you'll always be my little son." As Chris hugged him, he was taken by surprise. But that didn't stop him from returning it.
As Chris asked if he wanted to hold Jacob, Optimus nodded, and reached in the crib, gently taking the newborn into his cradling arms. "I remember when this was you." He rocked his grandson back and forth gently, humming the lulliby Chris was singing earlier.

Chris nodded slightly as Optimus spoke to him, not sure how to word his thoughts. He then nodded to himself as he watched Optimus cradle Jacob. He could only imagine that Optimus used his holoform to cradle him too. Though his fondest memories of Optimus's holoform were sitting on his lap, watching TV, and doing the normal things a human Father would do with his son.
He shook his head, and looked up at Optimus. "You're a natural with kids you know that?" He then added, asking quizically "You must have handeled a lot of kids outside of me on Iacon back in the day."
He was well aware that there had been many orphans that had been housed in the base before being adopted out to loving families. And he was sure his Father, being the mech he was, probably helped them a great deal. He even remembered a few times he had, though not very well considering he was a small child bak then.

Seeing Jacob brought back memories of Chris as a child. Chris had grown faster than a normal kid would because he was his own race. He was a techno organic, and being the children of gigantic fighting robots, who happened to be more advanced in their programming than the others, well it was only typical.
He listened to Chris's comment, but his eyes were still trained on the sleeping child within his grasp. "Yeah. There were a lot. But none of them meant what you mean to me." He recalled all those times Chris had been held hostage by Decepticons when he was in his late teens. He still hadn't gotten back at some of those Decepticons for that. But now wasn't the time. There really never was any good time.
He smiled, and remembered all those young kids back in the golden days of Cybertron.

"I wouldn't think they would." Chris commented with a shake of his head, chuckling "After all, there's no stronger bond then that between a Father and son, right?" He added, then yawned a bit, leaning against the wall.
"Especially ours... You raised me alone when I was young and in my late teens." Chris commented, shaking his head slightly "That must have been hard..."
He then laughed a little, reminiscing, he joked slightly at his next comment but calmed down in time. He sighed, and looked at him with a quizzicle look. "I still remember my 12th Grade English Teacher's reaction to you at the parent-teacher conference." He commented.
It had gone great until Optimus had gotten a bit frustrated with his teacher. He had made a few innapropriately harsh comments about Chris. It was one of the few times he had seen Optimus become so furious he confronted the man in robot form. Needless to say, he was switched out of the class quickly.

Optimus shook his head. "No, not really. I was off doing my Autobot leader duties when you were young, so you got to know your baby sitters well. And when you were in your teens, it was more of a search and rescue than a babysitting. Although being a teenager, you did get in trouble a lot." Optimus glared playfully at Chris, as if scolding him for what he had done in the past. Like thirteen years ago. Thirteen could have been a long time.
Optimus laughed at the comment on the English teacher. "Yeah, she wasn't the friendliest around. And I did loose my temper there." He wasn't exactly happy about it, but that English teacher said some pretty nasty things about Chris, and what was a robotic parent to do? Just sit there and allow the lies to be said? Hell no.

"Yeah, but you were always home when you could be. And you spent a lot more time with me then most Politicians do with their kids." Chris commented, seating himself in a chair, just in case he dozed off so he'd have somewhere to sleep "Especially after Mom died, you were home practically every day after that." Then again, that had been a time of mourning for Optimus. And he had probably needed that time with Chris as much as Chris had needed it with him.
"Yeah, but it was one of the few times you genuinely scared me I'll admit." Chris commented, shaking his head "I've never seen you threaten a human before, safe to say." He shook his head, yawning he leaned back.
"Though I can almost guarantee if I'm anything like you, I'll probably be the same with Jake." Chris explained, shaking his head slightly "Not that it's a bad thing, sometimes you have to lay down the law when it comes to your kids, right?" He hoped Optimus would get what he meant.
