The music blasted in her ears. Her head was bobbing to the beat of the song. Her feet had their own beat. She mouthed the lyrics as she stared at the horizon of the lake. She was no dancer, nor did she have the right beats, but this one in particular, appealed to her.
Leah stared at absolutely nothing during this lazy day. Wearing a simple blue shirt and jeans with black high tops and over-sized sunglasses, she was here to relax under the shade of this oak tree. Different things had been hectic this past week and she needed this.
The song changes, a softer song this time. She smiles, it was one of her favorites, "Someday We'll Know". She takes the brush from the bag beside her and started lip syncing. She was relaxing, not caring what everyone would say if they saw her. Her rockstar moment arrives, the part the song that Mandy Moore belts out the lyrics. She stands, bobbing her head and letting loose. She was spinning and just plain rocking out. As the song ends, she grins, widely. Then plops back down to her original position and laughs. This was the most fun that she had had in a long time.

Arden walked towards the lake, supposedly a party place, but at the moment, no one was there. Or so she thought. As she neared an oak tree, she could faintly hear music and then saw a girl rocking out. My kind of person flashed through her mind as she watched, not wanting to interrupt. When it seemed as if she was finished Arden thought she should say something, that way she wouldn't feel like a creepy stalker. "Hi, I'm Arden." she said, moving to the girl's view. "I just moved here a few days ago." She a friendly smile replaced her annoyed look on her face as she spoke. She was glad she'd found someone like her old friends out in the place.

The songs halted as Leah tried to catch her breath. Her moments of laughter had taken the little amount of energy that she had left after the dancing. Her breathing was heavy, but the smile on her face was very content. Hearing a voice, she looks up. She looks at the girl with a confused look. "Hi," said Leah the girl.
She shakes her head. "Um, Leah," she responds, reaching out her hand. Standing up, she remembers her manners. "Uh, take a seat." she says, pointing to the spot next to her. Her cheeks turned red and she couldn't help but laugh. "About that dance... I am so sorry you had to see that."

"Nice to meet you." Arden said as she shook her hand. Hearing the offer, she plopped down onto the grass beside where Leah had been. She chuckled with Leah. "No worries, my friends back home used to do it and I do too," she said smiling. She loved remembering the many times when she was out with her friends and they acted care free and random.

Leah giggles as a response to Arden's thought. "Well, I guess we'll be getting along well then!" she says as she sits back down. She smiles to at the new girl. "So, Arden, where are you from?" she asks, as the wind gently moves her bangs. The heat came down hard at this time of year, the wind didn't help though. The winds were very dry and less frequent as anyone would've liked.

"That's good to hear." Arden said, happily. She couldn't be happier, now that she knew she wouldn't start school alone. "I'm from the Bay Area, Pacifica to be specific." she responded matter-of-factly. Talking about her old home would be enjoyable she decided as she spoke. She wasn't going to let her sad mood get the best of her.

Leah responded with a big smile and exclaimed, "That's great!" She nods, trying to comprehend the exact location of the said place. Looking out into the horizon, she tried to think. She had studied geography in the past. It wasn't her best subject though. Where, where, where, she thought. Giving up, she turns her direction back to Arden. "I honestly have no idea where that is." she says with a sly grin. "I've been to San Francisco though!" her exclamation may have been louder than expected.

Arden watched as Leah thought. When Leah finally spoke, she chuckled. "It's close to San Francisco." she stated. "I love going to San Francisco, it's so fun! I'd hate to live there though, walking up the hills would be MURDER!" she said giggling for no reason in particular except for that she was having fun. "Have you ever been to 'The Rock' or Ghirardelli's?" she asked curiously.

Leah laughed at the thought of climbing those gigantic hills. "Yeah it was torture when i had to walk up, um... Ugh! What was that called? You know, that garden that you could drive through but it's some sort of a maze thing to go down." She shakes her head saying, "Ugh, I can never remember these places!"
And it was true. The last time that she had come to San Francisco was to visit certain relatives after her father's death. She had no ambition to remember or even try to understand where things were there. She was only reminded of all the horrible things those aunts said about her dad and the fact that David has every intent on not returning home.
Her transfixed notion was disrupted as she heard Arden's voice. "Um, no." her tone was low, and melancholic compared to her earlier one. Shaking her head, and the thoughts that cloud it, she continues, "I have no idea where those are." Her tone was lighter now, trying to recapture the fun of the conversation.

"Can't help you much there, I have no idea what you're talking about." Arden said, chuckling. Seeing Leah once again deep in thought, she wondered if she should ask what she was thinking about or not. "Well, 'the Rock' is Alcatraz Island, personally, I've never been there. Ghirardelli's is a chocolate place, ya know, Ghirardelli's square?" she replied, overlooking the serious look about Leah.

Leah's thoughts were interrupted, she seemed to have forgotten the conversation but Arden's statements made it clear. "Oh yeah, Alcatraz, I've been there once, but the whole history behind it creeped the hell outta me. That didn't make me enjoy all the more. But on the other, I have never heard or been to Ghirardelli's." she says. Shrugging, she continues, "I mean, I thought i would be able to go to it. Hell, even just eaten the actual chocolate...Hm," she turns to Arden, "I talk too much." she states a cheeky smile on her face.

Arden nodded. The story was creepy, but she loved scaring herself a bit, to an extent. "That's strange.... wait sec, I might have some with me." she said, grabbing her tote bag and rummaging through it. Within a minute she had pulled her arm out of the bag successfully holding two Ghirardelli's chocolate squares. "Ta~Da!" she exclaimed, a goofy smile on her face. At Leah's comment, she chuckled. "I talk a lot too, when I'm comfortable at least." she stated. "Anyways, what's your favorite kind of chocolate?" she asked, still holding the squares.

Leah grinned widely then laughed at Arden's displays of discovery. She pretended to think. Well, in reality, she really did have to think about that one. What was her favorite kind of chocolate? Dark, white, with nuts? Almonds maybe? Or perhaps the simple milk chocolate? Nodding her head, Leah responds, "I'm gonna have to go with milk chocolate because well, it's the sweetest in my opinion." She smiles again, "And it's simple!"

"Okkie Dokkie, milk chocolate it is." Arden said, acting like her dorky self. She handed Leah the milk chocolate square, then unwrapped her own white chocolate square. She nibbled on it for a little bit before she decided to just gobble it down in 3 to 4 bites like she usually did. "You like it?" she asked with remnants of her sweet snack still on her face.

Leah happily accepts the treat with a smile on her face. Call it childish but the simple act of giving her sweets was fantastic in her eyes. After devouring the small length of the sweet, she grins in response to her new friend. She laughs then falls silent. She wasn't really that good in meeting new people. The same went for keeping a good conversation with them when they're alone.
Searching her mind for any possible continuation for the conversation, her mind drifts to differents aspects of meeting a new person. First, the approach. The moment in time that two strangers engage in some kind of contact. The second, a light opening to a conversation. The third, something to make the encounter memoriable. 'Wow', she thinks, 'just think of something to say.' She was scolding herself and that was never a good sign. Her psyche really needed to shut it at times.
She smiles, the obvious statement pops into her head. "So, how has this oh so raging town been like compared to the Bay Area?" Sarcasm was evident in her tone as she described Tranquility, California. Nothing interesting happened to this town in her opinion. Quiet frankly, she was also so willing to just run away from it.
